Three types of postgraduate programme are offered by CIHEAM / MAICh:
Postgraduate Specialisation Programme
The object of this programme, equivalent to one academic year (9 months) is to help the student acquire knowledge in specific fields of Mediterranean agriculture, food systems, environment and development.
Each specific field programme includes lectures, conferences, seminars, applied and supervised work. The CIHEAM Postgraduate Specialisation Diploma is issued upon the successful completion of the postgraduate specialisation programme.
Master of Science Programme
The object of this programme, equivalent to two academic years, is to improve the student’s knowledge, critical understanding and applied skills in specific areas of Mediterranean agriculture, food systems, environment and development.
The first year corresponds to the post-graduate specialisation programme. The second year is dedicated to the elaboration of a thesis based on experimental research work or a technical and/or economic development study.
The CIHEAM Master of Science degree is issued upon the successful completion of this programme.
Advanced intensive courses
These courses last less than one academic year and are intended to give the student an advanced level of knowledge in specific areas of the above-mentioned fields.
They may also consist of one or more sequences of one of the postgraduate specialisation programmes. A certificate is awarded upon the successful completion of these courses.

Diploma Supplement
The Diploma Supplement is being issued in English language and is free of charge to every student upon graduation.
The Diploma Supplement model was developed by the European Commission, Council of Europe and UNESCO/CEPES. The purpose of the supplement is to provide sufficient independent data to improve the international “transparency” and fair academic and professional recognition of qualifications (diplomas, degrees, certificates etc.).
It is designed to provide a description of the nature, level, context, content and status of the studies that were pursued and successfully completed by the individual named on the original qualification to which this supplement is appended.
It should be free from any value judgements, equivalence statements or suggestions about recognition. Information in all eight sections should be provided. Where information is not provided, an explanation should give the reason why.
